Replacing an off-the-shelf POS with a retail operations platform built around the business

Multi-location fragrance retailer · Florida, United States

01

The situation

Our client is a fragrance retailer with several stores in Florida and a central warehouse. The stores ran on Clover, an off-the-shelf point-of-sale system.

A generic POS handled the checkout, but not the way the business actually works. Inventory across the stores and the warehouse, day-to-day store operations and reporting didn't fit how the business runs, and the setup wouldn't scale as it adds locations.

02

What we're building

We're building a custom retail operations platform around the business: a desktop POS app for the stores, a central admin dashboard for inventory, stores and reporting, and a companion mobile app for iOS and Android.

Underneath it is one inventory model that tracks stock across every store and the warehouse in real time.

Card payments continue through Clover, integrated into the new POS.

03

How it's built

The platform is a TypeScript monorepo managed with Turborepo. At its centre is a NestJS API on PostgreSQL, using Prisma for data access. The admin dashboard is built with Next.js, the store POS is an Electron desktop app, and the mobile app uses React Native with Expo.

It's built to run on infrastructure the client owns.

04

Built to grow

The platform is designed for more locations, and for later phases such as a CRM, supplier management, offline POS and loyalty, without a rebuild.

05

Status

In development. Phase one covers the core POS, inventory and dashboard. We'll update this page with results once it's live.
